First Birthday Gift Guide
May 17, 2025This is the third time we are celebrating a first birthday in our house, and with each one I have learned what gifts work and what don't. They don't need much at this age, I mean they're happy enough playing with a wooden spoon and a pan aren't they? But if you can get them gifts that will last them a while and grow with them as they develop and learn how to play, then you're onto a winner.
Here are my top 10 recommendations for first birthday presents.
1. WALKER - This is a fab gift if your little one is on the cusp of walking and a bit wobbly, it also has little games for them on the front so can keep them entertained in more ways than one.
2. STACKING RINGS - It always surprises me how young they are when they can do these so if you haven't already got one then it comes high up on my list.
3. FIRST SHOES - It really depends on where your baby is at with walking but I have liked buying my babies their first pair of shoes for their first birthday. These are a great brand for their first pair of shoes, but I have also liked buying them a pair of toddler vans if I've got their first shoes already, as these shoes last a really long time.
4. PARTY OUTFIT - Whether you're throwing a party for them or not, it is only fair that they have a super cool outfit to celebrate in. At the moment, i'm loving this for girls and these for boys if you're in need of some inspiration.
5. INITIAL PRINT - All 3 of my children have one of these above their beds and I love them. A really nice, inexpensive gift that you can get friend's children too if you're stuck for ideas.
6. STACKING CUPS - These are so useful as they can be played with in so many settings, they're great for water play in the bath or pool, as well as in sand pits or just on their own. We always take ours on holidays with us as they all like to play with them in some way or another.
7. PERSONALISED DENIM JACKET - I know they're not going to fit it for long but I have my boys' ones hung up in their room long after they have grown out of them and they look so good. A really sweet birthday gift I think.
8. BOOKS - It's the perfect age to get them a few books for their book shelf as they can now get involved with lifting flaps, pressing buttons etc and it's a lovely thing to do together. I love these books.
9. SHAPE SORTER - This will keep them busy for ages, and as they grow older and more able you can use it in different ways and start to talk about the colours and shapes rather than just trying to fit them in the holes.
10. MEGA BLOKS - These building blocks are brilliant. Again, perfect for taking a handful out and about with you, or playing with in the bath/sand/car. We have used ours most days since my eldest got them for his first birthday.
