10 fun New Year’s resolutions Mums might actually stick to

goal setting new years resolutions Dec 09, 2025

New Year’s resolutions often feel like a list of things to give up or rules to follow and honestly, who has the mental bandwidth for that when you’re raising tiny humans?

Instead of restrictive, guilt-inducing resolutions, here are 10 fun, feel-good ideas that mums can genuinely weave into real life (yes, even the “my toddler hasn’t stopped shouting since 6am” kind of real life).

These resolutions spark joy, build confidence, and help you thrive this year without adding any extra pressure.

1. Take one "micro adventure" a month
A micro-adventure is a tiny, low-effort experience that feels special:

  • Trying a new park

  • Visiting a farm or beach

  • Going on a nature walk

  • Having a picnic in the living room

2. Start a "feeling proud" note on your phone, and whenever you think of something jot it down whether it's big or small.

Survived bedtime? Added.
Drank a hot coffee while still hot? Definitely added.
Lifted heavier in the gym? Pop it in.

By December, you’ll have a year’s worth of reminders of how incredible you are.

3. Swap One Scroll Session for a Self-Care Moment

Instead of doom-scrolling before bed, swap five minutes for something that refills you:
A stretch, a journal entry, a cup of tea, breathing exercises.
No pressure, we love to sit and scroll sometimes and we should never feel guilty for that but maybe something else might serve you better every so often.

4. Create a Family “Yes Day”… But Mini

Not a full Yes Day (no mum needs that chaos).
Just one evening or afternoon where your kids pick a movie, toppings, game, or activity.
It feels magical to them and manageable for you.

5. Commit to Movement That Makes You Smile

Forget the all-or-nothing workout rules.
Pick movement that feels fun or empowering: mum-safe strength training, dancing in the kitchen, buggy walks, soft-play laps (ok they're not that fun but they still count).

6. Implement a “Saving My Sanity” Hour

Once a week, claim one hour for you.
It could be reading, training, meeting a friend, going for a walk, or hiding in the bath with snacks you don’t want to share.

Put it in the calendar. Lock it in. Non-negotiable.

7. Try One New Recipe a Month (Not Every Night!)

No pressure to become a meal-prep queen.
Just one new dish a month to break the food monotony something fun, quick, or cosy.

It could be for the kids, or for you or maybe even the whole family.

8. Create that photo book you've been meaning to make

Commit to printing 10 of your favourite photos each month.
The cuddles, the chaos, the tiny moments you won’t want to forget.
It takes five seconds, and by year’s end, you’ve captured a beautiful, honest story of your year (and an easy christmas present for the grandparents too!)

9. Say No More Often (and without the guilt)

Make this the year you say:
“No, thank you — we’re having a quiet weekend.”
or
“That doesn’t work for us right now.”

You'll be so surprised at how much everyone understands and how much less stressful your life feels.

10. Do One Thing Each Week for Your Future Self

Tiny acts that make next week smoother:

  • Laying out your clothes the night before

  • Making a double dinner so tomorrow’s is sorted

  • Tidying one drawer instead of the whole house

These resolutions aren’t about pressure, perfection, or pretending motherhood is easy because we know it's not but they're about adding joy, creating space, and choosing moments that help you feel more like you.

Pick one. Pick three. Pick ten.
Whatever you choose, make it fun and make it yours.
